Tourist Centre Admissions Up 4.62 % in September

The number of tourists visiting Lanzarote's main attractions rose again last month. As a total of 240,120 admissions were recorded at the Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism, such as the Timanfaya National Park and the Jameos del Agua.

Overall, the number of people visiting the islands main attractions during the first nine months of this year now stands at 2,047,053 admissions, a figure that is up by 8.93% versus the same period during 2010. Which is to be expected as foreign tourist arrivals on Lanzarote have also increased by 17.72% between January and September.

The volcanic vistas of the Timanfaya National Park remain Lanzarote's number one attraction, welcoming 76,749 visitors to date this year. Followed by the Jameos del Agua, one of César Manrique's most outstanding creations, with 66,551 admissions.

The Cuevas de los Verdes hold onto the number three slot, with 3,027 visitors, followed by the Mirador del Rio with 28,480. Whilst bringing up the rear are the Jardin del Cactus (25,709) and the Museum of International and Contemporary Art, housed in the Castillo de San Jose in Arrecife, with 5,644.
