Aston Villa To Sign Lanzarote?

The Premier League football club Aston Villa has proposed that Lanzarote should be a team sponsor, following a meeting at the World Travel Market in London between representatives of the club and Astrid Perez, the councillor for tourism.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote is studying the proposal which would benefit the promotion of the island through the football club’s 700,000 strong following on social media sites. In addition, Aston Villa’s location in the UK’s second largest urban conurbation of Birmingham would help to raise the profile of the island throughout the region.

And with direct flights to Lanzarote from Birmingham already being offered by various airlines, it is hoped that this type of campaign could significantly enhance visitor numbers from the Midlands, according to Astrid Perez, who is also the vice-president of Lanzarote.

Ms Perez continued to say that should an agreement be reached between the club and the island’s tourist board, it would provide an extremely innovative method of promotion, with the additional possibility of training camps being organised for the club’s players on Lanzarote.
