Fernando Alonso Arrives on Lanzarote

The Spanish Formula 1 racing car team of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa arrived on Lanzarote yesterday for a period of physical training at Club La Santa. Alonso and Massa head the Ferrari team in Formula 1 racing.

Alonso’s performance for Ferrari has been impressive, with a win and nine podiums achieved last year against Mark Webber’s McLaren. However, he lost out overall and achieved only fourth place, whilst Webber pipped him to the post for third place.

The two drivers arrival on Lanzarote was only confirmed yesterday as the pair arrived at Arrecife airport. As an earlier press release by Ferrari had only substantiated that their team would training in one of the Canary Islands, without specifying which. Nevertheless a huge number of press representatives were at the airport in Arrecife yesterday to welcome the two Spanish drivers.

Staff at La Santa confirmed that last week they saw a lorry emblazoned with the Ferrari logo arrive at the sports village. Alonso and Massa will be following a strict programme of training, with all the routes and logistics, including their meals, planned in advance by Ferrari. Two bicycles were amongst the equipment unloaded for the drivers at Club La Santa.

Ferrari have asked for maximum privacy for their Formula 1 team whilst they are residing at Club La Santa and it is unlikely that the pair will spend much time outside the village on the north west coast of Lanzarote. In the past, it has been Jenson Button, who drives for rival team McLaren, who has come to Lanzarote for pre season training.
