Hotel Oasis Closes For Renovations

The hotel Occidental Oasis in Costa Teguise is about to close its doors for six months in order to have a complete make-over. Approximately eight million Euros is due to be spent on improvements to the rooms, common areas and the exterior of the hotel.

At present, the hotel is rated as a four star establishment and offers accommodation on an all inclusive basis. The Occidental Oasis and its sister hotel, the Teguise Playa, also located in Costa Teguise, were both bought by the Spanish bank La Caixa last year.

The seventy odd employees who currently work at the Occidental Oasis will all be re-employed once the work has been finished and while it is in progress they will be participating in a social accompaniment plan. The renovations will be carried out by the Lanzarote based construction company Hormiconsa.

In total, some 370 rooms will be refurbished, 100 of which are suites. A new restaurant will be built on site, as well as a children’s recreation zone and a new pool installation. The work will also see all the plumbing and air conditioning changed as well as the introduction of new internet networks.

It is also proposed to change the current exterior facade of the hotel, which has a black glass atrium above the reception area. The hotel’s director, Marino Orlandi, indicated that the aim is to improve the hotel so that it becomes one of the best in its category of four star all-inclusive.
