Lanzarote Tourist Spending Rises

Tourist spending on Lanzarote rose during the last quarter of 2011 to the highest level recorded during the last five years. The average spend per person per day on Lanzarote between October and December was €114.68.

This works out at €76.51 spent in the country of home origin and €38.17 spent per day by visitors during their stay on the island. When compared with spending across the Canaries as a whole, the amount dispersed on Lanzarote is actually €8.12 below the average amount, however in comparison with previous years, the figures have improved.

In terms of spending in the separate municipalities of the island, total spending was higher by those staying in Playa Blanca. Whilst those billeted in Puerto del Carmen spent more during their stay. Tourists staying in Costa Teguise spent both less on booking the holiday and less when they arrived.

When tourist spending is broken down by different activities, the €38.17 used daily to purchase goods and services on Lanzarote saw €4.25 spent within the accommodation, €4 on transport, €18.02 on food and drink, €5.24 on souvenirs, €5.20 on leisure pursuits and €1.46 on other items.
