Telegraph Tips CMF

The César Manrique Foundation has been named as one of the best small museums in Spain by the Daily Telegraph. Alongside other prestigious establishments such as the Espàcio de las Artes in Santa Cruz Tenerife and the Museo Maritimo in Santander.

The article, which has been written by Annie Bennett who is a regular visitor the island, recommends eight small and medium size museums that are worthy alternatives to Spain´s big cultural guns, such as the Museo Del Prado in Madrid. And accurately describes the Cesar Manrique Foundation as; “A series of extraordinary buildings that accentuate the geology of Lanzarote and are now its main attractions. His home, built into the boulders in a lava field, is now a foundation dedicated to his work. The ground floor exhibits are by his contemporaries, including Tàpies, Millares, Picasso and Saura.”

The CMF, along with the Museo Balenciaga, are the only museums nominated that are largely dedicated to the work of an individual artist. The other six museums featured in today´s article are Museo Marítimo (Santander), Marq Museo Arqueológico (Alicante), Centro Cultural Bancaja (Valencia), Museo Carmen Thyssen (Málaga), Fundación Juan March (Palma de Mallorca) y Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
