Occupancy Levels Rise 2.29% in May

Occupancy levels in Lanzarote hotels and apartment complexes rose by 2.29% in May, according to the latest data just released by ASOLAN, the local hoteliers association. Partly reversing three months worth of negative figures in February, March and April which saw the number of tourist beds filled fall by 3.62%, 4.89% and 9.74% respectively.

Occupancy levels in hotels and apartment complexes affiliated to ASOLAN hit 64.22% last month, making this the best May for these accommodation providers since 2003, when the number of beds filled hit 72.1%.

These positive figures reverse a negative trend that had seen occupancy levels fall for the three previous months, creating an average of 72.13% for the year to date. Whether this small upturn can be maintained in light of growing problems in the Eurozone remains to be seen however – whilst overall arrival data for foreign arrivals for May is yet to be released.

Puerto del Carmen was the busiest of Lanzarote´s three main resorts last month, with a total occupancy figure across all accommodation categories of 65.86%, followed by Costa Teguise with 63.77% and Playa Blanca with 63.66%.
