Foreign Tourist Arrivals Rise By 3.59% in November

The number of foreign tourists taking a holiday in Lanzarote rose by 3.59% last month against November 2011 figures, according to the latest data just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics, as a total of 138,236 holidaymakers touched down at Arrecife airport.

Arrivals from the UK, Lanzarote’s largest tourist market, grew by over 9% in November, as a total of 69,220 passengers arrived on flights from British airports. The Irish market, Lanzarote’s third largest, also recorded a big upswing of just over 21%, as a total of 12,991 tourists from Eire arrived on the island. However visitor numbers from Germany, Lanzarote’s second biggest source of tourist guests fell back sharply, down by 26% from 35,031 arrivals in November 2011 to just 25,921 last month.

Despite the negative news from Germany though overall foreign tourist arrivals look likely to remain largely unchanged this year versus 2011 figures, suggesting that Lanzarote remains a very viable holiday choice for consumers despite the ongoing recession in all key markets. So far a total of 1,554,518 foreign tourists have visited Lanzarote during the first eleven months of this year, a figure that is down by just 1.56% versus the same period in 2011.
