Irish Tourist Drowns Off Coast of Puerto del Carmen

A 44 year old father of two from Dublin has drowned in the waters off Playa Grande, the main beach in Puerto del Carmen. Ciaran Brown, who was enjoying a family holiday in the resort, ignored red flag warnings in place on Playa Grande on Saturday and entered the sea in treacherous conditions, only to be pulled unconscious from the water by lifeguards, who tried but failed to revive him.

Tragically, Mr. Brown died in front of his wife and children, who were due to finish their holiday on the island and return to Dublin yesterday. According to a spokesperson for Emerlan, the local emergency rescue services; “The waters were extremely dangerous at the time, which is why the red flag was flying. It is a terrible tragedy. Our volunteers did their best to save his life while waiting for the ambulance service to arrive but sadly they were unable to save his life. My understanding is he was on holiday and the tragedy happened in front of his wife and children but we do not have any more details.’
