Next Stop New York For Lanzarote?

The director of Lanzarote Tourism, Hector Fernandez, is currently seeking to create a direct route between New York and Lanzarote. To this end he has been in discussion with the American tour operator, Canary Island, at the current FITUR Travel Fair to see if there is any way the connection could be developed.

The North American tourist market is regarded as one of the most desirable to capture, as they are amongst the most affluent travellers worldwide. Moreover, statistics already show that the majority of American tourists (64%) are prepared to pay a considerable amount for foreign travel as long as they are convinced of the quality of their destination. In particular, destinations with a range of cultural activities and the opportunity to practice outdoor sports are particularly popular with this market.

Other important agreements that have been discussed at the 33rd edition of FITUR included confirmation that Iberia Express intends to maintain its daily flight between Madrid Barajas airport and Lanzarote during the summer, with more frequent flights envisaged for July and August. And there was also a meeting between the management team at Sovereign, the most prestigious brand offered by TUI UK, with Hector Fernandez to secure a wider presence for this particular segment of the British market in Lanzarote this year.
