Competition to Renovate Playa Honda Seafront

A new competition has just been launched by the Ayuntamiento of San Bartolomé to redesign the seafront promenade in Playa Honda. With a budget earmarked for the project of 1.6 million Euros, the local authority is hoping to receive a number of different proposals by the deadline of 30th April.

The projected timetable for the work is seven months, with the aim of concluding all the renovations by 1st December this year. This would mean work would begin as early as May, an indication of how urgent the Ayuntamiento considers these improvements to be.

The main aim of the project will be to resurface the walkway, provide new street furniture and improve access all the way along the promenade. The winning design will need to ensure that the entire area being reformed presents a coherent scheme, with attention given to providing sufficient areas of shade and good access for wheelchair users and the less mobile. The public toilets will also be renovated, with specific space given to cyclists, pedestrians and young children. Also included in the brief will be improvements to lighting, rubbish collection and the replanting of various zones.

The Ayuntamiento has been planning to renovate the promenade since 2009 and has now been given the budget to do so. The winning design will be announced in early May, after due consideration by the panel judging the competition.
