Tourist Arrivals Rise By 6% In March

Lanzarote tourist arrivals rose by just over 6% in March, thanks to an early Easter holiday period, which helped to drive an increase in passenger numbers from both the UK and Eire.

Lanzarote welcomed a total of 186,147 arrivals last month, according to the latest figures just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics, up from 175,942 passengers in March 2012, representing an increase of 6.07%.

The island continues to enjoy considerable growth in more secondary markets such as France and Holland. With French passenger numbers up by 183.2% year on year to 5,737 arrivals and Dutch passenger numbers up by 46.6% to 8,565 arrivals – establishing these markets as Lanzarote’s fifth and fourth largest source of foreign tourists respectively.

The UK, Lanzarote’s largest market, also enjoyed growth last month, as British tourist arrivals rose by 3.8% to 83,572 passengers. Arrivals from Eire, the third largest tourist market, also grew, up by 16.6% to 15,702 passengers. The only negative figures came from the German and Spanish markets which fell by 6.1% and 12.2% respectively.

Lanzarote has now welcomed a total of 482,895 tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2013, a figure that is marginally down on the 2012 figure of 494,872 arrivals by 2.4 %. Suggesting once again that Lanzarote continues to weather the current economic climate effectively.
