Lanzarote Tourist Arrivals Up 1.42% in April

The number of tourists visiting Lanzarote rose again last month as 160,851 passengers touched down at Arrecife airport – a figure that is up slightly by 1.42% versus April 2012, according to the latest data just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics.

The latest data from ISTAC reveals that both the British and German markets, Lanzarote’s largest sources of foreign tourists, dipped slightly in April. As UK arrivals fell by 2.7% to 75,629 visitors, whilst German arrivals were down by 2.9% to 21,222 passengers.

However these shortfalls were compensated for by growth in other key markets, most noticeably Eire, where passenger numbers grew by a highly respectable 17.1% to 14,993 arrivals. Along with newer, emerging markets, such as France, where passenger numbers climbed by just over 150% to 6,149 holidaymakers last month.

Overall, tourist arrivals for the year to date are down slightly on the first four months of 2012, as the island has now welcomed 643,745 Spanish and foreign holidaymakers, representing a 1.42% drop on last years numbers.
