César Rides Again – CICAR Revive Manrique Art Car Design

Mobile Manrique artworks will be taking to the roads this weekend to mark the celebrations for Dia de Canarias. As one of Lanzarote’s largest car hire companies revives a classic César creation which was first first conceieved and unveiled way back in 1987 to help promote the launch of the SEAT Ibiza.

SEAT commissioned Manrique back in the 80’s to dream up a unique design for their new model as a way of promoting the Ibiza to a younger market, resulting in the creation of a limited edition that went on sale in 1987. One of these originals can still be viewed today as Manrique’s own model was donated to the Casa-Museo Manrique in Haria and now takes pride of place in the grounds of his former home

CICAR came to an agreement with the César Manrique Foundation, which owns the rights for the design, to use an adaptation of the artwork on the new cars they are introducing to their fleet. And ninety-six motors are being added to the company’s range of rental vehicles across the archipelago in time for the Dia de Canarias celebrations this weekend.
