Tourists Arrested After Jet2 Mid-Air Nightmare

Holidaymakers and flight crew returning from Lanzarote to Leeds-Bradford airport were subjected to a drink fuelled air rage ordeal on Monday. Resulting in the arrest of a couple on arrival in the UK, after they allegedly touched flight crew inappropriately and used threatening behavior during a boozy mid-air rampage.

The Jet2 Two, comprising an as yet unnamed man aged 56 and a 53 year old woman, apparently got way too into the holiday spirit on a late night flight from Arrecife. And have already been banned by the budget airline for life after ignoring safety instructions and using abusive and threatening language throughout the four hour journey home. On arrival, they were even deemed to be too aggressive to travel to the police station in the same vehicle so had to be transported separately instead. The couple were eventually released on bail pending further enquiries.

According to Jet2 spokesman Phil Ward; 'A large proportion of this pair's despicable verbal abuse was personal attacks on one particular crew member and this is simply unacceptable. We know that incidents like this are affecting many UK airlines and it's only by taking a proactive stance and standing together as an industry that we will make progress.”

Jet2 already run an on board passenger education programme, Onboard Together, which is designed to highlight the impact of alcohol at altitude. But clearly these types of message are not getting through to all holidaymakers, especially as we enter the summer season. This week for example Ryanair felt compelled to outlaw duty free drinks being taken into the cabin on flights from the UK to Ibiza. Whilst Jet2 banned a further three British tourists last week after they caused uproar on a flight from Glasgow to Dalaman.
