TAKE OFF Tourist Numbers Soar By 4.5% in August

Lanzarote’s popularity as a holiday destination continues to rise, according to the latest data just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. As the island welcomed nearly 200,000 foreign tourists during August – an increase of 4.51% versus 2014 figures.

The tourist sector in both Spain and the Canary Islands has been enjoying a bumper 2015 to date, thanks to a variety of factors such as unrest in the Middle East.   And as recently reported Lanzarote has been outperforming this upward curve – recording the largest percentage increase in tourist numbers in the Canaries during the first six months of this year.

The latest figures from ISTAC suggest that this positive trend shows no signs of abating and the island is now well on course for another record breaking year.
During August 199,554 foreign passengers touched down at Arrecife airport, taking total non Spanish tourist arrivals to 1,452,220 for the year to date, a figure that is 4% ahead versus the same period in 2014.

The UK accounted for 56% of these arrivals, with 112,682 British holidaymakers visiting the island last month, reinforcing its position as Lanzarote’s largest tourist market.
