LIFT OFF Tourist Arrivals Up Again in September

Lanzarote’s popularity as a tourist destination continues to rise, according to the latest data just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. As over 200,000 arrivals were recorded at Arrecife airport last month, an increase of 2.3% versus 2014 figures.

Holidaymakers from the UK accounted for 51% of the total of 203,683 arrivals, as 104,245 British tourists touched down last month. Whilst significant growth was also recorded in the French market, with arrivals up by 74% versus September 2014.

Lanzarote has now welcomed a total of 1,871,661 holidaymakers during the first nine months of 2015, an increase of 3.45% versus the same period last year. The UK remains the leading source of these arrivals with 864,703 passengers. Followed by Spain (234,314), Germany (229,830), Eire (171,325) and France (99,722).

Lanzarote also remains slightly ahead of the upward trend in the Canary Islands, as tourist arrivals rose by 2% in total last month across the archipelago.
