ROMAN HOLIDAY Vueling Adds New Service From Italy’s Capital

Lanzarote welcomed its first direct flight from Rome on Saturday, as low cost Spanish carrier Vueling operated its inaugural service from the Italian capital to the island.

Italy is one of Lanzarote’s fastest growing markets, as evidenced by the fact that the number of connections from that country to the Canaries has grown from 16 in November 2010 to 40 today. Italian visitor numbers have also been on the rise as a result, growing by an impressive 162% over the last four years, as over 40,000 Italians enjoyed a break on Lanzarote during 2014.

The move is part of Vueling´s broader expansion plan as the low cost Spanish carrier starts to square up to Ryanair and easyJet in key European hubs, such as Rome´s Fiumicino airport.

According to Héctor Fernández, Lanzarote’s Director of Tourism; “This new route helps to reinforce Lanzarote´s position in the Italian market and one of our principal objectives is to grow this even further during 2016.”
