SUB STANDARD Local Dive School in Deep Water

A rogue dive school in Puerto del Carmen are now in deep water with local authorities after operating without any official authorization or accreditation.

The as yet unnamed dive shop, reportedly located very close to the beach at Playa Chica, also known locally as Playa Barilla, were apparently able to operate for many years by claiming the status of a sports club, run solely for the benefit of its members, yet in reality was a fully fledged commercial exercise operating solely for profit.

Having been investigated by the local police it is possible that the pirate company could now face further sanction and possible proceedings from the Canary Island government.

This is not the first time that local authorities have detected issues in locally based dive centres, as last July agents inspected four shops in Tias, only one of which was found to comply with all legal and technical requirements.
