HIGH TIMES Tourist Arrivals Soar Again in May

Foreign tourist arrivals soared by 9.73% last month, according to the latest data just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. As a total of 190,583 tourists touched down at Arrecife airport during May.

May was the fifth consescutive month this year that foreign tourist arrivals have recorded positive growth. And the island has now welcomed a total of 948,322 passengers from markets such as the UK, Germany and Eire during the course of 2016, a figure that is up by just over 8% year on year.

Domestic tourism has also continued to grow, with arrivals from Spanish airports also up by 7.19% over the same period. The growth has primarily been driven by the collapse of tourism in former competitor markets across the Middle East and North Africa, leaving Lanzarote well on course for a record breaking year.
