GET AWAY British Taking More Holidays Abroad

A record number of British holidaymakers are shunning staycations in favour of breaks abroad, according to the latest data just released by the UK's Office of National Statistics.

The ONS's latest travel trends report reveals that the number of overseas trips taken by UK residents rose by 9% during the twelve months from April 2015 to April 2016, with just under 6 million overseas departures recorded during April alone.

The health of the British market is of fundamental importance for tourism on Lanzarote as the UK accounts for the bulk of arrivals on the island. Last year alone 1,073,629 British tourists touched down at Arrecife airport, equivalent to 40% of all visitors, with Germany the next largest market with 600,000 passengers. Whilst during March arrivals from the UK soared by an amazing 41.8%.

Industry observers are suggesting that this increase in overseas travel is being fuelled by cheaper oil prices, which have fallen by 70% since June 2014. This in turn has made it easier for airlines to reduce flight costs and air fares, with market leader Ryanair expecting to reduce the price of their tickets by an averge of 7% this year.
