BRIT BOOST UK Arrivals Up In First Half Of 2016

Lanzarote's popularity continues to grow, especially in the key British market, where arrivals have risen by between 12% and 23%, depending on separate data sources, during the first half of 2016 versus the same period last year.

The number of tourists visiting Lanzarote continues to climb, as the latest figures released by AENA and Promotur reveal an arrivals upsurge of 11.92% in June. Whilst overall passenger numbers for the first six months of 2016 are also up by a total of 8.62%.

British tourists accounted for just over half of all foreign tourist arrivals in June, as 111,756 holidaymakers from the UK touched down at Arrecife airport, a year on year increase of just over 15%. Arrivals from other key markets such as Germany and Eire also recorded positive growth too.

Whilst overall, the British market also expanded dramatically during the first six months of this year, with arrivals rising by between 12% and 23% according to different sources, versus the first six months of 2015. Surprisingly however, some data sources suggest that German arrivals have dropped considerably over this same period, down from 312,412 in 2015 to 208,185 in the first six months of 2016 , which would represent a big fall of just over 33%.

Quite how a post Brexit British market will shape up over the coming six months and beyond, with the backdrop of falls in sterling and declining business and consumer confidence, is anyone's guess. But the ongoing problems besetting other competing destinations, from terrorism to the Zika virus, show few signs of abating.
