SHOWER POWER Perseid Show Set To Light Up Local Skies

Mother Nature will be putting on a spectacular free show tonight as the Lagrimas de San Lorenzo, or the Perseid meteor shower, blazes a trail across the skies above Lanzarote.

In Spain this phenomenon is known as The Tears of Saint Lawrence, as the meteor showers closely coincide with that Saints Day on August 10th. And this year, cloud cover allowing, the cosmic conditions have colluded to create near perfect conditions for a spectacular show. As the moon is currrently in its crescent phase, which may also make Saturn and Mars much more visible too.

Up to 100 shooting stars per hour could be visible in local skies and obviously the less light pollution the better, so head for higher ground away from the main resorts for maximum viewing pleasure. Whilst in terms of timings local astronomers will be scanning the skies from around 21.30 onwards.
