WRONG TURN Lanzarote Road Accidents Up By 29%

Road accidents and fatalities on Lanzarote are on the rise, according to the latest data just released by the local island government. As a total of 309 vehicles have been involved in incidents during the first seven months of this year, a rise of 29% versus the same period in 2015.

Statistically, fatal accidents are fortunately rare on Lanzarote, although over this time period these have increased in number from four in 2015 to six in the period January to July 2017, with three of these fatalities linked to alcohol consumption.

Total accidents have risen from 138 to 178, with 69 people left slighly injured and 11 seriously hurt. The figures in part reflect the fact that there are more cars on the road, as visitor numbers to the island continue to climb year on year.
