ROYAL RETREAT Palacio Ico Becomes Rural Hotel
The Palacio Ico in Teguise, one of the most impressive and historic edifices on the island, is to be converted into a rural hotel. After the local government granted permission for this project to go ahead last week.
The property, which was built at the end of the 17th Century and which was once a barracks has long enjoyed protected status due to it's historic significance. But will now become a nine bedroom luxury hotel, boasting loads of original features and an in house bar restaurant.
According to local island President Pedro San Gines "The rehabilitation of this type of heritage and the general improvement of tourist facilities on the island in recent times indicates that the process of economic recovery on Lanzarote is well under way. "
A projected opening date has yet to be clarified.
