BUGGING OUT Quad Wrangles Continue in Yaiza

Local politicians are once again up in arms about the damage being caused to the local environment and agriculture by quad bike tours.

The number of companies offering this form of excursion, which typically takes tourists on off road tours through protected regions on the island, has proliferated in recent months. Despite attempts earlier this year to impose some control and regulation on their activities.

In Yaiza, in the south of the island, local politicians are particularly concerned about the possible degradation of farmland in and around the Temuime plain area, where buggie tours have apparently been conducted in contravention of previously agree controls. As a result locals are unhappy and are placing pressure on local politicians to take action against the excursion operators.
