SMARTER PHONES New Interactive App For Tourist Centres

Tourists visiting Lanzarote and the island´s main attractions, such as the Jameos del Agua and the Timanfaya National Park, can now access interactive information tailored to their personal profile and interests, thanks to the development of an innovative new mobile phone app.

The App has been created by a company called Red Skios and utilises the latest IBM cognitive cloud technology to provide tourists with a richer, more immersive and personalised experience. It is available now as a free download via the CACT Lanzarote website

140 beacons will be located around the island, which will then deliver information about surrounding points of interest in the visitors own language and in accordance with their own tastes, interests and preferences. So for example a tourist visiting the Jameos del Agua and with an interest in archeology will receive information about Cesar Manrique and his work, whilst a music lover would be informed about various concert nights and events at the venue.

According to Jose Juan Lorenzo, director of the island´s Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism, "This will change the way we generate and make knowledge accessible to our customers, our way of developing new products, the way we train our staff and the way we do marketing."
