FOBBED OFF Local Landmark Takes Extended Break

Fobos, the famous César Manrique wind toy which normally adorns the roundabout close to the artist´s former base in Tahiche, has been removed for extensive restoration. And won´t be returning to it´s rightful spot close to the Cesar Manrique Foundation until some time in April 2017.

The 13 metre tall sculpture, which is made of galvanised steel, was weathering badly and hence was dismantled and removed a couple of weeks ago in order to facilitate its reproduction in more durable, higher quality materials. And it has now joined another giant Manrique wind toy, the Tribute to Jose Ramirez Cerda, which usually sits just outside the airport, in renovation rehab. Fobos was named after one of Mars´moons and has also been replicated on both Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
