MONEY BAGS Aer Lingus Ramps Up Baggage Fees To Canaries

Irish holidaymakers flying to and from Lanzarote with Aer Lingus will now be paying twice as much to check in their luggage - after the Eire based carrier revamped it´s baggage fee structure earlier this week.

Previously, Aer Lingus based its checked baggage charges on whether travel was taking place during low or high season periods. But that policy was binned on March 28th - with fees now calculated on the basis of the distance of the journey.

Lanzarote, along with the rest of the Canaries, now falls into the furthest and most expensive price bracket.  And as a result, couples traveling with Aer Lingus to Lanzarote or the rest of the Canary Islands with a 25kg bag each will now be charged an eye watering €240 - or €60 per case each way.

Eire is Lanzarote´s third largest foreign tourist market after the UK and Germany and last year alone the island welcomed a total of 242,521 Irish holidaymakers.
