TUMMY UPSET Tui Blacklists Tourist Fraudsters

The UK´s leading tour operators are combining to combat the issue of fake insurance claims as Tui reveals a 1400% increase in holiday sickness over the last two years.

Tui, who have a large presence here on Lanzarote, own the all inclusive First Choice brand, as well as Thomsons. And according to Nick Longman, their UK Managing Director; "It´s been an absolute explosion. We have seen an enormous 1400% increase in claims in the last two years. This is clearly a massive issue for us - it´s a massive issue for the industry".

Here in Spain the scam is said to have cost Spanish hoteliers 50 million pounds in the last year alone - as British tourists on all inclusive deals have been encouraged by rogue claims companies to fake food poisoning in order to recoup the cost of their holidays.

The 1400% increase in claims reported by Tui is some three times the industry standard of 500% reported by ABTA earlier this week, reflecting that operator´s deeper involvement in the all inclusive market.

As a result, Tui has started to blacklist customers they suspect of making false claims. Whilst other travel companies such as Thomas Cook and Jet2 are also examining a similar course of action. The City of London police, the force responsible for investigating false insurance claims have also confirmed that they will be working with hotel chains and tour operators to prosecute miscreant holidaymakers this summer.
