IN FLIGHT Tourist Arrivals Up Again in May

Foreign tourist arrivals rose by nearly 6% in May, according to provisional data just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. And have now grown by over 13% during the first five months of 2017.

Lanzarote´s popularity with foreign tourists continues to grow unabated, according to the latest data from ISTAC. Which reveals that 201,882 holidaymakers trod the tarmac at Arrecife airport during May, a figure that´s up by 5.935 versus 2016. Whilst arrivals from the Spanish mainland continued to rise too - up by 3.5% in May and just over 6% for the first five months of the year.

So far this year a total of 1,073,637 foreign tourists have visited Lanzarote - with the UK accounting for 53% of these arrivals. During this period, British tourist numbers have grown by just over 11%, so confounding fears that Brexit, a poorer exchange rate and falling disposable incomes might impact negatively on the island´s largest and most important tourist market.
