SOUTHERN COMFORT New Beach For Playa Blanca

The popular resort of Playa Blanca could soon be boasting a brand new beach, as companies have been invited to tender for the creation of a new stretch of sand between Playa Dorada and the Marina Rubicon.

The resort is already blessed with some of the best beaches on the island and this new project can only help to further enhance Playa Blanca´s appeal to tourists.

The project was first mooted back in 2014 and a recent tender gives local companies forty days to present proposals for the creation and management of this new artificial playa.

Around 150,000 cubic metres of sand would be required - which would most probably be dredged from the waters around the island rather than requisitioned from existing beaches such as Papagayo, as this is the cheapest option. However environmental obstacles may result in sand being imported from sources outside the island, but this option carries higher cost implications.

The new beach would be the first to be created in Playa Blanca since the 1980´s and the investment required is estimated to be in the region of 3 million euros. It is envisaged that the beach will occupy some 20,000 square metres, providing space for 600 sunbeds as well as a terraced area with refreshment kiosk. No timescale for the completion of the project has yet been given.
