DEUTSCHE BOOM Lanzarote Leads Canary Islands

It´s not just the British who are flocking to Lanzarote in record numbers, as German arrivals have taken off too during the first half of this year.

Overall, the quantity of German tourists visiting the Canary Islands rose by just 1.8% to around 1.8 million holidaymakers in the first seven months of this year.

But Lanzarote has totally outperformed all of the other islands in the archipelago - attracting 210,000 visitors - an increase of 11.2% over the same period.

By comparison, German arrivals on Tenerife and Gran Canaria remain flat, whilst on Fuerteventura arrivals from Germany rose by just 1% - although total German tourist numbers there remain much higher than on Lanzarote overall, with 488,000 arrivals.

Only little La Palma came close to matching the upswing in arrivals on Lanzarote - recording a 6.7% increase in German passenger numbers between January and July this year. Leaving Lanzarote as the main beneficiary from the collapse of once popular German holiday destinations such as Egypt and Turkey
