BUDGET BOOST Low Cost Lanzarote Arrivals Up 24%

The number of tourists arriving on low cost flights to Lanzarote from key markets such as the UK has soared by 24% during the first nine months of this year, according to a new Spanish government report. Which reveals that the island´s international airport at Arrecife has enjoyed an increase in budget airline passengers superior to that of most other hubs in Spain.

Low cost airlines have been helping to fuel the recent boom in Spain´s tourist industry - with budget carriers bringing 4.54 million holidaymakers to the Canaries during the first nine months of this year.

However conventional carriers experienced much flatter growth - recording an upswing in passenger volumes of just 3.8% over the same period.

The report reveals that Ryanair, easyJet and Vueling account for 62.4% of all low cost arrivals in Spain - and 32.7% of total air traffic. Whilst the UK is the largest inbound market for the budget airlines - with bargain loving British holiday makers booking 13.5 million cheap flights to Spain between January and September this year - 37% of all of the low cost flights into the country over that period.
