TOTAL WRECK Telamon To Be Raised In 2018

The shipwreck Telamon, one of Lanzarote´s more offbeat landmarks, is set to disappear from the shoreline in 2018. As a €50,000 project to raise the stricken vessel gets underway next year.

Originally named Temple Hall and first launched in Scotland in 1957 the 140 metre cargo ship was on route to the Ivory Coast with a cargo of wood in 1981 when it sprang a leak, before diverting towards Lanzarote and eventually running aground on the coastline between Costa Teguise and Los Marmoles. An area now home to the island´s water desalination plant.

The half-submerged ship wreck will be much missed by divers and snorkelers and is destined to end life on the scrap heap.
