REGENERATION GAME Developers Eye Costa Teguise

Five new tourist developments are on the cards in Costa Teguise as plans are afoot to eliminate existing empty structures in order to further enhance the resort’s appeal to tourists.

Since the onset of the financial crisis back in 2008 a number of half-finished building projects, referred to as skeletons by locals, have blighted the resort. These eye-sore edifices have since served solely as giant canvasses for local grafitti artists, but all that is going to change over the next couple of years, according to the local mayor. As a number of hotel groups have unveiled plans to complete the structures in order to create new hotels and apartment complexes.

Most prominent amongst these are the Barcelo Group, which already operates three establishments within the resort. Which they now plan to add to by redeveloping the shell next to the old Occidental Oasis hotel by El Ancla beach. Whilst the Belive group are also eyeing skeleton next to the Playa Verde Hotel.

At the other end of the resort, the Gloria Palace Group has submitted plans for a new five star hotel next to Sands Beach, close to Los Ancones. Whilst another group of investors are apparently interested in the plot in front of the Vital Class hotel.

However some locals have reacted in horror to the plans, pointing out that this will only usher in mass market tourism and yet more all inclusive visitors.
