TOWEL DOWN Tour Op Trials Pre-Booked Sunbeds

Hitting the pool early to book the best beds could soon become a thing of the past if Thomas Cook's trial on Lanzarote makes a splash with British tourists. As the tour operator tests out a new sun bed pre-booking scheme for the first time on the island.

From the end of next month, guests staying at the Aequora Suites in Los Pocillos will be able to pre-book their favourite sun beds for the duration of their stay. But will be charged from £22 per bed per week for the privilege, as Thomas Cook try to create a novel new revenue stream, with obvious echoes of in flight pre-booked seating.

The scheme is also being trialled at two other hotels in Spain, with a view to rolling it out to another thirty hotels in time for the school summer holidays.

Thomas Cook's Chris Mottershead states “We’re excited about Choose Your Favourite Sunbed, particularly for families that want to secure a number of beds together in a specific spot.”
