LATE CALL Ryanair's 'Last Minute' Cork Cancellation

The travel plans of a planeload of Cork bound Ryanair passengers fell flat this morning after the budget operator cancelled their 7.25am return flight from Lanzarote at short notice.

The flight from Lanzarote to Cork is one of the earliest outbound services available - requiring passengers to check out of their accommodation in the middle of the night and queue at the airport from as early as 4am.

The flight cancellation was caused by staff sickness and some passengers were alerted by either text or email from 3am onwards. However, a number of home bound holidaymakers only received the news as late as 6am, once already in the departures lounge and waiting to board. Resulting in fraught scenes as distressed tourists struggled to re-arrange flights for future dates and source fresh accommodation, with some passengers now booked to return as late as this Thursday.

According to Irish media reports there was little in the way of helpful communication from the airline’s representatives on the ground.

Ryanair issued the following statement “This flight from Lanzarote to Cork was regrettably cancelled due to crew illness. All affected customers were contacted by email and SMS text message and advised of their options of a full refund, free transfer on to the next available flight or alternative routing and provided with hotel accommodation. Ryanair sincerely apologised to customers for this cancellation.”
