FRENCH FLY Three New Routes From France This Winter

Lanzarote’s fastest growing market is clear for take-off this winter with the addition of three new services…

The low-cost Spanish airline Volotea has just announced three new connections from France to Lanzarote this coming winter. With new services available from the major conurbations of Toulouse, Bordeaux and Marseille in addition to their existing route from Nantes.

These new connections will operate weekly, every Saturday from December 22nd to March 9th. The number of French holidaymakers visiting Lanzarote has soared in recent years. During the course of 2017 alone nearly 150,000 passengers from France touched down at Arrecife airport, establishing the market as the island’s fifth largest source of visitors, after the UK (1,452,511), Germany (474,587), Eire (266,773) and Spain (261,734).

According to Lanzarote’s tourism councillor, Ángel Vázquez,"This is another example of the confidence that the airlines are placing in our destination. Within our strategy of diversification, French tourism is one of our main bets."

A view that reflects attempts by the island’s tourist authorities to move away from the current reliance on UK arrivals, which account for around half of all tourist visits and which are under pressure thanks to a combination of factors such as Brexit, currency depreciation and the re-emergence of competitor destinations in the Middle East.

The French are also viewed as desirable tourists due to their high spending in resort and apparent interest in Lanzarote’s gastronomic, sporting and cultural offerings.
