STRIKE FORCE Action Intensifies At Be Live Hotel

Tourists arriving at the Be Live Lanzarote Experience Hotel tomorrow could find there are no rooms available….

Strike action taken by cleaners and chambermaids at the Be Live Lanzarote Experience Hotel looks set to intensify tomorrow as they conduct a continuous 48 hour walkout. Which may leave tourists arriving at the hotel this Thursday and Friday without any accommodation, according to local media reports.

The strike will be accompanied by pickets at the hotel doors – a welcome for guests that can only damage both the hotel’s and the island’s image as a tourist destination.

The dispute revolves around pay and conditions, with cleaners at the hotel being subjected to marathon working days in exchange for low levels of renumeration. Conditions which have become all too commonplace in many local hotels since this sector was deregulated back in 2012.

Tour operators that feature the hotel are apparently already offering refunds and alternative accommodation to guests affected by the action.

The Be Live brand is owned by the mammoth Globalia group of companies – which boasted a turnover of 6.3 billion euros in 2017 alone and which has been investigated for tax irregularities on no less than four separate occasions since 2011.
