The open-air swimming pools at Islote Fermina in Arrecife are set to enjoy a 1.3 million euro facelift.

The renovation and re-opening of the open-air pools at the Islote Fermina has been something of a political football since their closure back in 2008. But now the island government in conjunction with the local council in Arrecife are kicking on with plans to bring this idyllic spot back to life.

1.38 million euros has been allocated to completely overhaul this once iconic facility, which is akin to a twin of Cesar Manrique’s emblematic Parque Martianez in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife. And once completed, this sea front facility is expected to enhance the capitals image and the lives of locals, whilst also providing the island with another unique tourist attraction.

The site will incorporate gardens and a cafeteria and is expected to be open to the public in early 2019.
