SHOW GARDEN Prestigious Prize For Jardin de Cactus

Lanzarote’s Jardin de Cactus has picked up the prestigious Carlo Scarpa International Award for gardens…..

The Award is made each year by the Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche, in recognition of unique sites and landscapes that are rich in natural, historical and creative values. Previous high-profile winners include Sissinghurst, Amsterdam’s Museumplein and the historic Agdal in Marrakesh since inception in 1990.

The scientific committee of the Benetton Foundation unanimously agreed to make the award to the Cactus Garden in Guatiza as the site embodies the fusion of art and nature that lies at the core of both their philosophy and the work of its creator, Cesar Manrique. Who famously formulated an alternative tourist development model by fusing volcanic landscapes with his own artistic aesthetic to create a series of unique visitor attractions.

To mark the Award, the Casa Amarilla in Arrecife plays host to a new exhibition entitled Lanzarote, Jardin de Cactus which runs through until early January 2019. Whilst a photo rich, 211 page Spanish language book of the same title has also gone on sale.
