DIG IT Lanzarote's Museum Of Archaeology Opens In Arrecife

Lanzarote’s new Museum of Archaeology is now officially open to the public…..

After two years of planning and preparation Lanzarote’s latest museum was inaugurated yesterday at an official opening ceremony in Arrecife.

Located in Calle Fajarado in the island capital, the new exhibition space occupies around 275 square metres and will showcase some of the most significant finds from Lanzarote’s pre-Spanish conquest era, creating a faithful portrayal of majo aboriginal culture.

Showpiece exhibits include a mummy of an ancient inhabitant of Lanzarote, a special section dedicated to the period of pirate attacks during the 16th and 17th centuries and objects reclaimed from the seabed such as amphoras and cannonballs.

The Museum of Archaeology will be open Tuesday to Friday from 10.30 to 17.00 and on Saturdays from 10.30 to 14.00. Admission is free of charge until January 8th and will then be priced at three euros thereafter.
