COVID 19 ON LANZAROTE First Cases Of Coronavirus On Lanzarote

Two visitors from the Spanish mainland have tested positive for Coronavirus – the first cases of Covid 19 to be identified on Lanzarote.

The tourists, from Madrid, are staying at a hotel in Playa Blanca in the south of the island and tested positive yesterday afternoon. They are currently confined to their hotel room and are awaiting further instruction from local health authorities.

Angel Victor Torres, the President of the Canary Islands, has previously stated that he would not consider imposing a quarantine on an entire hotel, in the wake of the infection at the H10 Costa Adeje in Tenerife. However, an announcement about proposed action is expected later today.

Meanwhile, the island government on Lanzarote has taken further preventative measures to combat the spread of the virus by announcing the temporary closure of all of the main tourist attractions on the island, such as the Timanfaya National Park and the Jameos del Agua for an indefinite period from this morning.

Tourists visiting the island who display any symptoms are being advised to call 112, the local emergency number, where advice is available in five different languages. There is also an emergench helpline number - 34 900 112061.
