Tourist Arrivals Climb 6.32% in January

The number of foreign tourists visiting Lanzarote rose by 6.32% last month versus January 2010 figures. According to the latest data just released by AENA, the Spanish airport authority. As a total of 123,682 holidaymakers enjoyed a break on the island. A figure that is also up by 4.02% in comparison with January 2009.

Overall the Canary Islands welcomed a total of 868,041 foreign arrivals last month, an increase of 11.76% versus January 2010. Fuerteventura enjoyed the largest percentage increase in passenger numbers as 129,372 holidaymakers touched down on the island, an increase of 33.21 % versus January 2010.

Followed by Gran Canaria, with an increase of 12.71% or an additional 32,233 visitors in comparison with 253,545 tourists arriving in the same month in 2010.

Tenerife's increase was a more modest 7.14% , with visitor numbers rising from 297,990 in 2010 to 319,283 this January. Whilst the island of La Palma saw a decrease in the number of holidaymakers taking a break there during January, with -15.11% less visitors than in January 2010, a drop from 11,694 visitors to 9,926 in January 2011.
