Hotel Occupancy Rises By 7.58% in January

The number of tourists staying in apartments and hotels in Lanzarote rose by 7.58% last month. As occupancy for January hit 72.69% – the highest figure achieved during the first month of the year since 2005.

Lanzarote's tourist sector enjoyed a healthy start to 2011, as occupancy in the islands hotels and apartment complexes reached levels not seen since January 2005. As 72.69% of tourist beds were filled, according to the latest figures just released by ASOLAN, the islands hoteliers association.

Apartment complexes and hotels in Puerto del Carmen achieved the highest level of occupancy at 75.25%. Followed by Playa Blanca, where the number of beds filled hit 72.91%. Whilst Costa Teguise enjoyed an occupancy level of 69.93%.

Last year occupancy levels recovered by 4.41% , reaching 69.42% for the year, from an all time low of 65.01% during 2009. The wider trend though reveals that occupancy levels have been falling on the island year on year since 2006, when the number of beds filled reached 77.92%.
