March Tourist Arrivals Up By 16.86%

The number of foreign tourists taking holidays in Lanzarote soared again last month, thanks in part to the recent upheaval in the Middle East. With the island maintaining a positive start to 2011, as a total of 163,704 visitors touched down at Arrecife airport. An increase of 16.86% versus March 2010, according to figures just released by AENA, the Spanish airport authority.

The number of foreign tourists visiting Lanzarote climbed again last month, as a total of 163,704 arrivals passed through Arrecife airport. Representing an increase of 16.86% versus the same month in 2010, according to the latest AENA figures.

Overall, Lanzarote has now welcomed a total of 431.071 foreign visitors during the first three months of this year. A figure up by 13.44% versus the same period in 2010 and the best first quarter performance since 2008. Whilst collectively, the Canary Islands have enjoyed an 18.71% increase in foreign tourism over the same period of time. As total arrivals for the seven islands reached 2.825.900 passengers.

Lanzarote was the fourth most visited of the Canary Islands in March. Behind Tenerife (366.241 arrivals), Gran Canaria (309.723) and Fuerteventura (173.223). And occupies the same position for the first quarter of this year also.
