Occupancy Levels Rise By 9.9% in May

The number of tourist beds filled in Lanzarote hotels and apartment complexes rose by nearly 10% last month, according to the latest data just released by ASOLAN, the island's hoteliers association. And is now 8.6% up for the year to date versus the first five months of 2010.

Apartment complexes and hotels in Lanzarote enjoyed a 9.9% increase in occupancy levels last month, versus May 2010. As a total of 61.93% official tourist beds on the island were filled. So maintaining a positive start to 2011 for Lanzarote's accommodation sector.

Puerto del Carmen, the island largest resort, recorded the best occupancy levels, with 63.7% of beds filled. Followed closely by Costa Teguise, with 62.45% and Playa Blanca with 60.47%. By accommodation type aparthotels, many of which operate in the all inclusive bracket, enjoyed the best occupancy levels, outperforming four star hotels and apartment complexes in both Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. Whilst in Playa Blanca self catering bungalows enjoyed higher occupancy levels than any other type of accommodation.

Away from the main resorts occupancy levels in Lanzarote's rural hotels fell away significantly versus the first four months of this year. As the total number of beds filled reached just 25.57%.
