An Evening of Zarzuela in Puerto Calero

This Friday, 28th October, there will be a special evening of Zarzuela at Puerto Calero, courtesy of the Atlantic Symphonic Orchestra. Zarzuela is the Spanish style of light opera, mixed with theatre, dance and gossip in an often humorous vein. Entitled the 'Brushstrokes of Zarzuela' it provides an excellent introduction to this genre of classical Spanish music.

The evening's entertainment is being provided by the Atlantic Symphonic Orchestra under the artistic direction of Isabel Costes. Several leading operatic singers will also be performing, including tenor Juan Antonio Sanabria, baritone Augusto Brito and soprano Paola Di May.

Juan Antonio Sanabria has recently performed the Barber of Seville to critical acclaim at the Galician Auditorium in Santiago de Compostela. Accompanying the singers on piano is Ricardo Francia.

The repertoire which has been programmed for Friday evening includes well known songs, duets and romances such as La Gran Via, Doña Francisquita and Luisa Fernanda. Any ladies attending in traditional embroidered shawls will find that there are complementary gifts from Puerto Calero.

Tickets for the event cost €18 and are available from the main office at Puerto Calero, Ferreteria Tias, the English Food Market and at the Perfumeria Gala in the Biosfera Shopping Centre. The concert begins at 20.00 in the main square covered with canopies in Puerto Calero.
