Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote at the Cuevas de los Verdes

The piano conciertos of Prokofiev and Chopin form the basis of an evening of music performed by the Basque pianist Josu Okiñenaon Saturday 29th September at the Cueva de los Verdes. Accompanying Josu will be the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote, with tickets on sale from all the ticket offices of the Centres of Art, Tourism and Culture at 20 Euros each.

This musical gala gets underway at 21.00 and features an interpretation of the Overture on Hebrew Themes by Sergei Prokofiev and Concert no. 1 Op 11 by Chopin. The orchestral accompaniment includes musicians playing two violins, a viola, cello, clarinet and bass.

Okiñena is an accomplished pianist who has been teaching postgraduate studies at numerous universities in Spain, Cuba, Argentina and Bolivia as well as performing at some of the most prestigious musical events for the classical piano around the world. Born in 1971, he has since achieved a high level of study and is currently both the co-ordinator of investigation at the Higher Centre of Music in the Basque region as well as a Doctor at the University of Valladolid. During the last few years he has also widened his repertoire to perform with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Basque country and received a prize for his work on Father Donostia, the Basque composer of the early twentieth century.

The Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote is the first of its kind on the island. Formed in 2011, the musicians performed their inaugural concert at the Island Theatre this March. Appearing alongside Okiñena are violinists Giovanni Deniz and Lusi Montesdeoca, on viola Ayoze Garcia, on the cello DavidePaiser, Ayoze Rodriguez on clarinet and Ivanoff Rodriguez on the bass.
